Efforts underway to open up Partridge Island

Many people have been very disappointed they can't go to Partridge Island...legally. But that may change soon.
A fundraising campaign will be launched to make Partridge Island accessible to the public. The cost of improving the one kilometre breakwater as well as facilities on the island is estimated at $5 million to $6 million. Partridge Island is a national and provincial historic site because of its role in development of the city and because it's the graveyard for hundreds of Irish Immigrants.
Saint John Waterfront Development General Manager Kent MacIntyre would like to see private fundraising come up with half of the required money in hopes that would prompt governments to fund the rest.
